Call to order: General Meeting was called to order at 6:36 p.m. by Wendelin Dunlap, President on October 8th 2007. Location, Whitney library. All PTA board members were present. Sufficient notice of the meeting was given as it was posted on the Whitney reader board, as well as a letter was sent home to parents.
Approval of Minutes: There were no previous minutes to approve from the meeting in September. I (secretary) was unable to attend, and I don't believe anyone took minutes at that meeting.
Treasurer's Report: Tammy Bartley gave the treasurer's report. Copies of the report were made available to all attendee's. The report was reviewed and filed for audit with no corrections.
Emergency Packs: Sarah is sending out reminders to those who have not yet paid for their child's emergency pack.
Motion made to provide 20 emergency packs for teachers, seconded and approved.
Tammy received 2 requests for scholarships for emergency packs. Motion made, seconded and approved to provide those two scholarship emergency packs. Additional packs will be made and kept on hand for any new student enrolled this year.
Health Screening: Rosie requesting 10 volunteers to assist at this falls health screening on October 23rd. Need coverage in morning and afternoon session. Sarah will be in charge of rounding up volunteers.
Rosie also asking about volunteers for head lice check. Mr. Schwartz advising that Whitney takes care of the head lice screening, no volunteers needed.
Family Fun Night: Interest in having a monthly family fun night at Whitney. Debbie and Louise have volunteered to coordinate these events.
November Family Fun Night will be Game Night. Debbie and Louise will be providing board games from their preschool class to be used on game night. Discussion about having ice cream social that night as well. Tentative date November 6th.
December Family Fun Night: Wood Craft Night. Debbie volunteered to look into cost of supplies. Tentative date December 12th.
Box Tops: Patricia Wills was nominated to be our Box Top Coordinator this year. Nomination seconded and approved. Congrats and Thank You Patricia!!!
Child Care: Wendelin advising she has a possible child care provider for PTA meetings. This is so meetings can be held in the afternoons every other month so teachers who live out of the area can attend as well. As well as board members with no alternative child care options.
Fall Fundraiser: It was decided to postpone the fundraiser until Spring and have one big fundraising event. Ideas presented:
Spring Carnival: Tile painting, bounce house, pony rides, face painting, balloon animals. Open event to all and charge admission.
Build a brick pathway to surround new playground equipment. Sell bricks to be engraved (similar to library's entryway) to surround playground.
Current goal is to raise ???? for the year to put towards playground equipment.
Endorsement of I-4204: Motion made, seconded, and approved to endorse I-4204
Principal Report: Lockdown drill done today. Drill done to practice what to do in case of intruder, domestic dispute, etc. Two years ago a modified lockdown was issued due to an anonymous threat made to all schools in Skagit County. Fire Drill was done on Wednesday... all went well!
Meeting adjourned 7:40 p.m.
